Fly the new Alitalia - Results look promising
On May 18th the new C.E.O., Mister Rocco Sabelli gave a quick overview of how things are going, after the last couple of months. First quarter results are in line with expectations. This represents a very first step in the right direction and important because it tells that the turnaround can be achieved.
Passengers are beginning to regain confidence in Alitalia’s continuity as a company. So the overall result for the first quarter is good, above all given the global situation, particularly in the air transport sector. But the next two years, which already looked challenging, will now be even more so because of the economic crisis.
The fleet continues to grow
On the 29th of May the fifth new A320, called ‘Giovanni Boccaccio’, joined the Alitalia fleet and will be operational on the Rome Fiumicino-Milan Linate route. A further 9 aircrafts will be delivered by the end of 2009, for a total of 90 new Airbus within 2013 and, on long haul routes, 14 A330 Airbus.
The new A320 meet with the most advanced international standards, with reduced noise and fuel consumption. The new aircraft will be recognizable by the green ‘Environmentally friendly’ logo on the body of the aircraft and on the engines. All seats are equipped with individual LCD screens offering personalised on-board entertainment.

Fly Lufthansa worldwide without a paper ticket
The mobile boarding pass service introduced recently by Lufthansa on its Frankfurt-Vancouver route has been extended and is now available on almost all long-haul flights departing from Germany.
More and more passengers are taking advantage of this fast, flexible and convenient check in service and having their boarding pass sent to an Internet-enabled cell phone. With the exception of flights departing from Germany, the mobile boarding pass can now be used on flights from more than 30 airports in Europe.
Lufthansa’s online check in service also offers a range of new options. Passengers who are travelling together will be able to check in independently and select seats next to one another even if they have not made a joint booking. Passengers who have already checked in via the online or mobile check in service can now also change an existing seat assignment on the Internet.
Lufthansa investing in products and services
As of late summer, two of the three Lufthansa Business Jets, which are operated for Lufthansa by PrivateAir, will additionally be equipped with economy class seats. The Frankfurt–Bahrain and Frankfurt–Damman routes will then have 32 seats in business class and 60 seats in economy class.
The aircraft will be equipped with the latest generation of seats, i.e. with integrated in-flight entertainment in both classes. The new equipment in the Business Jets will enable Lufthansa to be far more flexible in the arrangement of the flight schedules and also be able to present passengers with a better and more comfortable offer on routes that don’t justify the deployment of a wide body aircraft.
